The bookstore the Dimension Fantastique located in Paris is specialized in fantasy and Sci-Fi. It was co-founded by 2 passionate book lovers. They only have an Instagram and Facebook account and would like to create a website in the future. We proposed them to create 2 platforms (mobile + computer). The Dimension fantastique was the first specialized bookstore to be active on social media but nowadays all competitors have ecommerce website.
"We want to be more generalist than other specialized stores: we want to make fantasy accessible to anyone." Julien, co-owner of La Dimension Fantastique
To design a responsive website for this bookstore. In this project we are focusing our efforts on organizing the information in a clear way, to be most effective for both the customer and provider. With the designer’s team we tried to propose a functional, fun website while highlighting booksellers' favorites and an online calendar for book signing and new book presentation events.
Difficulty to take order request during the COVID-19 period - Keep atmosphere and added value of physical bookstore through a new website - All competitors have ecommerce website.
Imaginary - Sharing - Passionate
After our secondary research and stakeholder interview we defined the problem statement below:
“La Dimension Fantastique customers need to find inspiration to order books online, because they like to rely on their bookseller’s recommendations even when they can’t come to the store. We will know that we have reached our goal if the user can find very clearly, on the website and the application, the personal selection of his favorite bookseller.”
La Dimension Fantastique doesn't have existing website so we created firstly a site map to define the information architecture with primary sections we could test on users in the further process.

Before starting usability test we had an interesting meeting with the stakeholder and we finally decided to highlight the section "about us" because the library has a strong brand identity in the universe of sci-fi books. We also decided to propose the category of book directly in the menu, which was validated by the customers of the bookshop during the usability test.

For the website ambiance we chose an imaginary and colorful moodboard. Warm colors such as yellow or orange which recall the passionate side of the booksellers and their desire to share the world of fantasy with their customers. The dark images, the sky and the spherical shapes represent the imagination, the escape of thought through books. One of the comments we heard several times from customers is that La Dimension Fantastique stands out thanks to the advice of the booksellers, the favorites that they propose each month. This notion of sharing is represented by the images of people gathering, the lantern toss.

For this challenge we tried to keep a fantasy atmosphere for the website with blue color (logo color) and accessibility to booker's advices. Their loyal clientele greatly appreciates the advice of the owners of this bookshop. Julien and Morgane are in the habit of offering their favorites and summarizing the books by adding a personal note.
Before COVID-19, founders received many writers and organized book signings in the bookshop, which led us to add an "event" section to the website, to allow visitors to the site to have access to the schedule of sessions.
